My images were commissioned for the website of MTV3 and the national TV-broadcast of the race. During 4 days I did audioslideshows, flash based picture galleries, 360° panoramas and and an insert for the main channel - naturally in addition to the still-imagery for the immediate and archival use for the MTV3. All imagery, editing and coding (both html and flash) were done by me on location. The visual content was hosted on my server and the presentation of was done using I-frames on predefined pages - very much like the one you are viewing (for security reasons).
As almost all of these elements contain audio and they are projected onto one html-page, make sure you finnish viewing one element before starting the next one.
Consisting of 3 equirectangular images, shot with precision 360 panohead using HDR-imaging, panorama shows the Levi Black racingslope at sunset, the night before the competition.
Clicking on the icon on the lower left corner starts the audio, which features Kalle Palander (former world champion) explaining his feelings and sentiments, when racing on this hill two years ago (he was now recovering from an injury, which prevented him from competing this year).
The audio is different for all three images. The icon on the lower right corner opens the panorama into full-screen view and then returns it to the set framesize.
Presented in flash, the panorama can be grabbed and dragged with the mouse and zoomed in and out using the shift/ctrl/cmd -keys - or the mousewheel. Signs in the images are hotspots, which lead to subsequent images through crossfade-transition.
I updated 10 times this gallery during the weekend, displaying generic imagery and feelings from the weekend festivities - in addition to some competition shots. In its final form now it contains 40 pictures, set to display c. 5 sec. before a blur-transition to the next image, in random order. Many of the pictures which were displayed during the first two days were updated/replaced later on.
I decided not to use any audio on this one, as I felt it might have disturbed the mood. Also, I decided not to give any control to the viewer as to which images to view, but only the option so see them as I presented them- in random.
Captions (in Finnish) slide over the top of the image as soon as the image is fully loaded on the page.
I did two audioslideshows, one for each competition. As my client was the host broadcaster, I had access to their audio, so I hooked up a PMD-660 to a line and got all the interviews and commentary - although I ended up using very little.
All of a sudden I was told that c. 45 second insert was needed for each of the four TV-broadcasts of the competition. I came up with this one, with a voiceover. The quality is not of the level I would have liked it to be, but the only chance I had shooting video was during a single practiserun for the women on friday; and I had to cut this out of c. 8 mins of very shaky footage.
Shot on Sony EX XDCAM, click here to see the insert (separate window, 45sec).
