Lightroomissa harjoittelemme ohjelman alusta […]

JOKES 2015 Multimedia Workshop

Syksyllä järjestetään toistamiseen Journalistisen Kultuurin Edistämissäätiön (JOKES) multimedia workshop, jossa olen vastuuopettajana ja meidän DocImages-tiimi opetuksessa erittäin suuressa roolissa. Tämän lisäksi mukana opettajina mm. legendaarinen dramaturgi Tove Idström, näytelmäkirjailija Virpi Haatainen ja ääninäyttelijä Juhani Rajalin. Kokonaisuus on yhteensä seitsemän päivää ja erittäin kattava: suunnitelu, kuvaus, äänitys, äänenkäsittely, videoleikkaus, julkaisu, etc. Päivämäärät: 25-27.9 Espoo 16-18.10 Lahti, […]

Anatomy of a Good Documentary

Spring for me means intensive teaching. Presently doing Video 101 for photographers in LAMK (Lahti University of Applied Sciences). As always, enjoying it immensely. I asked the students in three words describe what they feel is essential in a good film / documentary. And to make things more interesting: one word had to be a noun, one an […]

Multimedia Workshop

Multimedia Workshop

I just finished an intensive of multimedia storytelling in Aalto last week. Doing it intensively (i.e. 6-8 hours close contact, every day) really wears you out. Trying to stay “fresh” yourself, i.e. not fall into routines, and all the time trying to find out what it is this time you really think students would appreciate and benefit […]

Workshops and teaching

One of the reasons I have been quiet in this blog has been my rather serious commitment to teaching, which leaves very little time for anything else. Last semester I taught  in Lahti University of Applied Sciences (photography / video editing / multimedia) and Aalto ARTS University in Helsinki (multimedia). In addition I was doing some […]

Regards, Terhi

(Click the image to see the work) The public discussion on  bullying has been active during the past weeks. Aamulehti published on a cover of their Sunday edition a letter of an 8-year old, who is being bullied in school. A very touching letter. Some cynics have questioned the authenticity of the letter.  I understand […]

The father of Picasso

It’s been extremely busy month which I’ve spent it mostly teaching. Right after coming home from Val di Fiemme I did a four day intensive on sports photography (working with photographer Aki Loponen – a collaboration which I enjoyed immensely) and almost right after that one I started a two week intensive on journalistic multimedia […]

Talking of Sports Images…

Talking of Sports Images…

One of my favorite images from these games. The three ladies above everyone else: Björgen, Johaug and Kowalczyk. Slowly packing my stuff here in Val di Fiemme, heading homewards tomorrow.  Next month will be very much teaching oriented: first teaching sports photography  Thursday thru Sunday and then video and multimedia intensive in Lahti (joint project […]

Paradigm Shift

Paradigm Shift

This is not an eulogy. This is not so much about Apple or the man – Steve Jobs – either. This is about the paradigm shift he introduced which people don’t seem to get. And this is about our future. But: I cannot write this without paying homage to somebody I have always respected immensely. […]
